The release of Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest of All Time further dented its theatrical release prospects, thereby reducing the release of Vikram's much-hyped project. Directed by Pa. Ranjith, this Tamil action-adventure hit the screens on August 15 after a lengthy production process. The film garnered a lot of buzz primarily due to Chiyaan Vikram's unique portrayal. However, the film's niche appeal failed to attract a large number of audiences, leading to low box office collections.

 As per the latest update, Thangalan has grossed 46.10 crores in 28 days. Including taxes, the total earnings at the Indian box office is 54.39 crores. Overseas, the film grossed 17 crores, ending its theatrical run. Combining domestic and international earnings, the total worldwide earnings are ₹68 crores.
